What does Hatco dE-L mean?

On a Hatco FDWD-series humidified holding cabinet, 'dE-L' appears on the digital display to indicate that the water reservoir needs deliming. Mineral and lime deposits accumulate in the reservoir and on the probes over time and must be removed to keep humidity sensing and generation working correctly. The manual directs the operator to contact an authorized Hatco service agent or Hatco for assistance.

Symptoms

  • 'dE-L' shown on the digital display
  • Lime or mineral deposits visible in the water reservoir
  • Reduced or inconsistent humidity output over time
  • Probes affected by scale buildup

Common causes

  • Lime and mineral deposits have built up in the water reservoir
  • Probes have lime buildup from accumulated minerals
  • Reservoir has not been delimed on schedule

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Read the dE-L code

Confirm 'dE-L' is shown on the digital display, indicating the water reservoir needs deliming.

  2. 02

    Power down before service

Turn off the power switch, unplug the power cord, and allow the unit to cool before any cleaning or maintenance, per the manual's electric shock hazard warning.

  3. 03

    Remove lime and mineral deposits

Follow the 'Removing Lime and Mineral Deposits' procedure in the MAINTENANCE section to remove lime from the reservoir and probes.

  4. 04

    Contact Hatco service

The manual directs you to contact an authorized Hatco service agent or Hatco for assistance for the dE-L condition.

When to call a professional

Routine deliming may be within an operator's reach using the manual's 'Removing Lime and Mineral Deposits' procedure, but the Hatco FDWD manual directs you to contact an authorized Hatco service agent or Hatco for assistance on the dE-L code. If you are unsure or the message returns after cleaning, use qualified service, since the manual requires trained personnel for work on this electrically live, heated unit to avoid shock or burn.
