What does Vollrath F2 mean?

F2 flashes on a Vollrath foodservice induction range when its over-heating protection feature trips. The manual states that if the temperature of the cooking surface becomes too hot, the unit turns off and the display flashes "F2" to show it is in over-heating protection mode. Once the unit has cooled, turn the cooking surface back on; if F2 is no longer displayed, cooking can resume.

Symptoms

• The display flashes "F2" instead of a steady power level or temperature value
• The induction range turns itself off during cooking
• The cooking surface is unusually hot to the touch
• Heating stops even though induction-ready cookware is on the surface

Common causes

Diagnostic steps

   Stop and let the unit cool

   Remove the cookware and allow the cooking surface to cool down. The display shows F2 only while the unit is in over-heating protection mode.

   Restart and confirm F2 has cleared

   Once cooled, turn the cooking surface on. If F2 is no longer displayed, cooking can resume per the manual.

3. 03

   Relocate away from external heat

   Move the unit away from any external heat source, since the manual identifies nearby heat sources as a cause of the unit shutting down.

   Clear the airflow path

   Remove any obstructions to the air intake and exhaust panels, and keep at least 4" (10 cm) of space around the unit so airflow is not blocked.

   Do not run an empty pan

   Avoid leaving an empty pan on an operating unit; keep induction-ready cookware with food on the surface during use.
