Ako E09 Error Code
) (Does not activate alarm relay) (See page 16)

What does Ako E09 mean?
On AKO advanced cold room controllers (AKO-16524A/16525A series), E09 indicates a non-severe external alarm activated via a digital input. Unlike E5 (severe external alarm), E09 does not activate the alarm relay, allowing the system to continue operating. The controller logs and displays the alarm but takes no protective shutdown action.
Symptoms
- E09 appears on the controller display.
- Alarm relay does NOT activate (distinguishes E09 from severe external alarms).
- Audible alarm activates depending on configuration.
- Normal refrigeration regulation continues during E09.
- Alarm clears when the triggering digital input signal is removed.
Common causes
- An external device wired to the non-severe digital input has signaled a fault (most common).
- Digital input parameter configured for non-severe external alarm and receiving an unintended signal.
- Wiring fault (short or noise) on the digital input circuit generating a spurious signal.
- Connected device (door contact, remote switch) has failed in the closed/active state.

Diagnostic steps
Identify the digital input source
Check the wiring diagram for the digital input configured for non-severe external alarm. Determine which external device (door contact, remote switch, or alarm panel) is connected to that input.
Check the external device status
Inspect the connected device. If it is a door contact, verify the door is fully closed. If it is a remote switch, confirm whether a legitimate alarm condition exists at the remote source.
Check digital input wiring continuity
With power off, test continuity and insulation resistance of the digital input wiring run. Repair any short circuits or damaged insulation that could generate a spurious signal.
Verify digital input parameter configuration
Confirm the relevant digital input parameter is intentionally set to non-severe external alarm. If no device is connected, set the parameter to unused to prevent false alarms.
Clear the underlying fault and confirm alarm clears
Resolve the external device fault or wiring issue. Confirm E09 disappears from the display after the digital input signal is removed.
When to call a professional
Call a licensed technician if the source of the digital input signal is a safety device such as a pressure switch, gas detector, or fire alarm interface — even though E09 does not shut down the system, the underlying external fault may require expert assessment. Persistent digital input noise issues indicating wiring or grounding problems also warrant professional electrical investigation.
