E02Alto-Shaam

Alto-Shaam E02 Error Code

Control compartment temperature high (above 176°F)

What does Alto-Shaam E02 mean?

E02 fires when the low-voltage relay board inside the control compartment exceeds 176°F (80°C). The control electronics are sensitive to heat; sustained overtemperature conditions will damage the relay board and other components. The oven shuts down to protect the control assembly until the compartment cools to a safe level.

Symptoms

  • Oven shuts down and displays E02 on the control panel.
  • Control compartment feels hot to the touch on the exterior panel.
  • Error appears repeatedly, especially in high-ambient or poorly ventilated installations.
  • Cooling fan inside the control compartment may be inaudible or running slowly.

Common causes

  • Failed or seized control-compartment cooling fan.
  • Blocked cooling air intake vents due to grease buildup or nearby obstruction.
  • Oven installed with insufficient clearance from walls or adjacent equipment.
  • High ambient kitchen temperature exceeding installation specifications.
  • Faulty relay board temperature sensor giving a false high reading.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Power down and allow the oven to cool

Turn off the unit and give the control compartment at least 15 minutes to cool before inspecting. Attempting to diagnose with the compartment at elevated temperature risks injury and component damage.

  2. Inspect the control-compartment cooling fan

Open the control panel access and confirm the cooling fan spins freely and is not obstructed by debris. With power restored briefly, verify the fan energizes; a failed or seized fan is the most common root cause of E02.

  3. Clean all ventilation intake and exhaust openings

Remove grease or dust from the louvered vents on the control compartment. Blocked vents prevent cool air from entering, causing rapid heat buildup even when the fan operates.

  4. Verify installation clearances

Confirm the oven has the minimum side, rear, and top clearances specified in the installation manual. Proximity to other heat-generating equipment or tight enclosures directly raises the control compartment ambient temperature.

  5. Check relay board wiring and sensor connection

Inspect the temperature sensor on the relay board for loose or corroded connections. If the fan and ventilation are confirmed good but E02 recurs, the relay board or its thermal sensor may need replacement.

When to call a professional

Call a licensed technician if the cooling fan must be replaced, if the relay board shows signs of heat damage (discoloration, burnt smell, or deformed components), or if E02 persists after confirming adequate ventilation and clearance. Relay board replacement requires working inside live control panels and should not be attempted without training.
