H6Daikin

Daikin H6 Error Code

Position detection sensor malfunction (inverter compressor)

What does Daikin H6 mean?

The H6 code means the inverter has lost rotor-position feedback on the inverter compressor. The drive runs the motor by tracking back-EMF or Hall signals to keep the commutation in step — when that signal disappears or is implausible, the drive cannot energise the correct winding and the compressor cannot start. Cable-contact faults at the compressor, a defective compressor, or the outdoor PCB inverter stage are the three fault lanes.

Symptoms

  • Compressor will not start on any mode
  • H6 appears shortly after the contactor pulls in
  • Audible click without compressor runup
  • Fan starts but compressor never follows
  • Error returns immediately after each restart attempt

Common causes

  • Faulty contact of the compressor power cable at the terminal block
  • Defective inverter compressor (winding open or motor damage)
  • Defective outdoor unit PCB inverter driver
  • Damaged or disconnected compressor-feedback harness
  • Loose terminal screws allowing arcing during start

Diagnostic steps

  1. Isolate and verify DC-bus bleed

Turn off the outdoor disconnect and wait the service-manual dwell time for DC-bus capacitors to discharge before opening the inverter cover.

  2. Inspect compressor terminal connections

Remove the compressor terminal cover and confirm U, V, W lugs are clean, undamaged, and torqued per spec. Look for arc scorch or melted terminals.

  3. Measure winding resistance

With leads off, measure U-V, V-W, U-W. Values should match within a small tolerance — asymmetric or infinite readings condemn the compressor.

  4. Megger-test windings to ground

With a 500 V insulation tester, verify insulation resistance from each winding to the compressor shell. Low readings indicate a failing motor.

  5. Reseat PCB control harnesses

Unplug and reconnect each connector on the inverter PCB, checking for bent pins or water ingress.

  6. Replace the outdoor inverter PCB

If windings and terminals check good and wiring is sound, the inverter driver stage is faulty — replace the outdoor PCB with the matched part.

When to call a professional

Call a licensed technician for any H6 troubleshooting beyond visual inspection. Inverter DC-bus voltages remain lethal for minutes after disconnect, and compressor winding diagnostics require a proper insulation tester. Replacing an inverter PCB or the compressor itself needs model-specific parts, refrigerant recovery when the shell is changed, and correct DIP and capacity settings on the new board. This is certified HVAC work — unqualified hands risk equipment damage and serious injury.
