What does Irinox A04 mean?

The MULTIFRESH NEXT front electronic board has detected a fault with the real-time clock (RTC) module. The RTC is buffered by on-board capacitors rather than a replaceable battery; if mains power is lost for more than approximately three days the capacitors discharge and the clock loses its reference. An incorrectly set time will also trigger this alarm. The alarm blocks the active cycle until reset.

Symptoms

• A04 alarm code displayed on the MULTIFRESH NEXT control panel
• Active blast-chill or blast-freeze cycle blocked and unable to complete
• Incorrect or blank time/date shown on the control display
• Alarm persists after a recent extended power outage lasting more than three days
• Automatic reset occurs once time is correctly re-entered but cycle must be restarted

Common causes

• Mains power supply interrupted for more than three days, fully discharging the RTC buffer capacitors on the front board
• Incorrect time or date set in the control panel configuration
• Front electronic board RTC circuit component failure
• Repeated or prolonged power failures degrading capacitor charge retention over time

Diagnostic steps

1. 01

   Check and reset the time and date

   Navigate to the clock/time settings menu on the MULTIFRESH NEXT control panel and verify the current time and date are correct. Enter the correct values, save, and observe whether A04 clears automatically.

2. 02

   Confirm mains power history

   Ask site staff whether the unit was de-energised for more than three days. If so, the RTC capacitors will have discharged; resetting the time as above is the expected corrective action.

3. 03

   Cycle mains power and re-enter time

   Power the unit off at the isolator for 30 seconds, then restore power. Re-enter the correct time and date and allow the capacitors to begin recharging before confirming the alarm is cleared.

4. 04

   Monitor for alarm recurrence

   Run the unit normally for 24 hours and verify the RTC retains the correct time. Recurring A04 alarms without a power outage indicate a degraded RTC circuit or front board fault.

5. 05

   Inspect front electronic board

   If the alarm returns after a normal power-on cycle, visually inspect the front board for obvious damage, burnt components, or swollen capacitors near the RTC circuit. Document findings before ordering a replacement board.
