What does Star Speed Error mean?

On Star UM-Series conveyor ovens, a speed error appears as a flashing text message and indicates the motor is unable to settle at the chosen conveyor speed. The manual notes this can happen when a fast speed is selected that the motor cannot spin fast enough to achieve. The speed signal output stays the same, but the display flashes the error message to alert the operator.

Symptoms

• A flashing speed error text message on the display
• Conveyor does not run at the selected speed
• Bake time is off because conveyor speed is not as set
• Error appears after selecting a very fast belt speed

Common causes

• A conveyor speed selected that is faster than the motor can achieve

   Read the flashing message

   Note the flashing speed error text, which the controller displays when the motor cannot settle at the chosen speed.

   Lower the selected conveyor speed

   Reduce the conveyor speed setting, since the manual states the error can occur when a speed faster than the motor can reach is chosen.

   Check for drag in the conveyor drive

   With the oven off and disconnected, confirm the conveyor turns freely and is not binding, as mechanical drag can keep the motor from reaching the set speed.

   Restore power, select an achievable speed, and confirm the error clears and the conveyor settles at the chosen speed.

   Call a service technician if it persists

   If the speed error remains at normal speeds, contact your local service company, a factory representative, or Star Manufacturing to check the drive motor and speed controller.

When to call a professional

If the speed error persists at conveyor speeds the motor should be able to reach, the drive motor or speed controller may be at fault, which involves work inside the control box where line voltage is present. The manual warns of electrocution and injury risk during service and that stacked ovens have more than one power connection.
