What does Amana 9 Flashes mean?

Nine red flashes indicate a twinning fault, where the circulating blowers of twinned furnaces are not operating simultaneously and no blower operation occurs. The control detects that the furnace twin terminals are not connected together by field wiring, or that an isolating relay is missing or improperly installed in a twinned installation.

Symptoms

  • Circulating blowers not operating simultaneously
  • No blower operation
  • Integrated control module diagnostic LED flashes nine red flashes
  • Twinned furnaces fail to coordinate

Common causes

  • Furnace twin terminals not connected together by field wiring
  • Isolating relay not used
  • Isolating relay improperly installed

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Connect the twin terminals

    Install field wiring connecting the twin terminals and check the continuity of that wiring.

  2. 02

    Verify each fan motor

    Verify each furnace fan motor is operable on its own without the twinning connection.

  3. 03

    Wire per the twinning diagram

    Wire the installation per the twinning diagram in the installation manual, including the isolating relay.

  4. 04

    Power off before servicing

    Verify the line voltage supply is turned off before proceeding with corrections.
