The E11 alarm on Carel ir33 or pCO controllers indicates that serial probe S11 — a digitally networked sensor communicating over the Carel serial bus — has not sent a valid update within the expected polling interval. The controller marks S11 as not updated, disabling any control or alarm functions that rely on this probe's reading and falling back to a duty-cycle mode set by parameter c4.

Symptoms

• E11 displayed alternating with temperature on the controller screen.
• Any control function using S11 data (e.g., zone temperature regulation) falls back to duty-cycle operation.
• Alarm relay output activates.
• Loss of temperature monitoring for the zone or circuit assigned to S11.

Common causes

• Communication bus wiring (RS-485 or similar) broken, shorted, or disconnected between S11 and the controller.
• Incorrect bus termination resistance causing signal reflection and data loss.
• Serial probe S11 has powered-off or failed.

   Use the probe's DIP switch or configuration to confirm it is set to the address the controller is polling. Address conflicts cause E11 while the physical probe is operational.

   Power-cycle the bus and reset

   Power down the controller and S11 probe, wait 30 seconds, then restore power. Clear the alarm and verify S11 resumes reporting within two polling cycles.
