What does Floaire Modbus mean?

The Motor Speed Controller logs a Modbus fault when there is an issue with Modbus communication between the MSC and the master board. This applies when the fan is set up to be controlled over Modbus, where the master board sends speed and start commands to the MSC. A loss of that communication link is recorded in the controller's Fault History and counted in Fault Totals.

Symptoms

• MSC display or Fault History lists a Modbus fault
• Fan does not respond to commands from the master board
• Modbus fault count increments in Fault Totals

Common causes

• Communication link between the MSC and master board interrupted
• Modbus ID conflict (a VFD and MSC sharing the same Modbus number)
• Modbus ID set outside the valid range for the fan type
• Wiring fault on the Modbus connection

Diagnostic steps

   Check the Modbus connection

   Inspect the Modbus wiring between the MSC and the master board for loose or damaged connections.

2. 02

   Verify the Modbus ID is unique

   Confirm a VFD and MSC are not using the same Modbus number, since they cannot share an ID.

   Confirm the Modbus ID range

   Set the Modbus number within the valid range: 11-18 for an exhaust fan, 21 or 22 for a supply fan.

   Clear faults and retest

   Use Clear Faults in the MSC menu, then confirm the master board can again command the fan.
