What does Floaire Variable Device Fault mean?
When the MSC is set to Analog Speed and a potentiometer is connected for speed control, the controller displays a Variable Device Fault if the input voltage from that potentiometer drops below 1V. The fault flags that the analog speed signal has fallen out of its usable range, and it is recorded in the controller's Fault History and counted under Fault Totals.
Symptoms
- MSC display shows Variable Device Fault
- Fan speed does not track the potentiometer setting
- Fault appears only when Analog Speed is selected with a potentiometer connected
Common causes
- Potentiometer input voltage to the MSC dropped below 1V
- Potentiometer wired between 0-10V OUT and 0-10V IN is faulty or disconnected
- Potentiometer not calibrated after enabling Analog Speed
- Loose or damaged analog signal wiring
Diagnostic steps

Check the potentiometer wiring
Verify the potentiometer is connected between the 0-10V OUT and 0-10V IN terminals and that the wiring is intact.

Measure the input voltage
Confirm the analog input to the MSC stays at or above 1V across the potentiometer's range.

Recalibrate the potentiometer
With Analog Speed enabled, follow the MSC's on-screen instructions to calibrate the potentiometer for proper operation.

Clear the fault and retest
Use Clear Faults, then sweep the potentiometer to confirm the fan tracks speed without the fault returning.
