What does Henny Penny E-15 mean?

E-15 means the control has detected that the drain valve is open while the fryer is powered on and heating. A drain microswitch signals the control whenever the drain handle is moved to the open position; if that signal is present during operation, the control shuts down heating to prevent hot oil from draining while the fryer is in service. The error also triggers if the drain microswitch itself has failed.

Symptoms

• Display shows E-15 and heating stops.

Common causes

Diagnostic steps

   Fully push the drain handle to the closed position and confirm the valve handle is latched. Power cycle the fryer; if E-15 clears, the cause was an open drain.

   Check the drain handle mechanism for debris or solidified oil preventing full closure. Clean the valve seat and handle pivot if needed.

   Inspect the drain microswitch connector

   Locate the drain microswitch (typically mounted near the drain valve body) and verify its wiring connector is fully seated. Unplug and re-seat the connector.

   Test drain microswitch continuity

   With power off, disconnect the switch connector and measure continuity across the switch terminals while manually closing the drain lever. No continuity when closed means the switch is faulty.

   Replace the drain microswitch

   Install the Henny Penny-specified drain microswitch, aligning the actuator lever so it triggers when the drain handle moves to the open position and releases fully when closed.
