What does Manitowoc Ice E08 mean?

Code E08 is a TXV fault on dual-circuit/single-evaporator configurations — the same evaporator inlet/outlet (T3/T4) spread test behind E07 (greater than 12°F, ten consecutive occurrences) attributed to a malfunctioning expansion valve on these models. The evaporator is not being fed correctly.

Symptoms

  • E08 logged; uneven or thin ice fill
  • Extended freeze cycles
  • Production down versus the machine's rated output

Common causes

  • TXV malfunction (underfeed) on a dual-circuit machine
  • Low charge mimicking a valve fault
  • Restriction ahead of the valve

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Verify with the fill pattern

Compare the ice pattern and freeze time against the handbook's operational analysis tables to confirm a starving evaporator.

  2. 02

    Check charge integrity first

Leak-check and confirm the exact nameplate charge before condemning the valve — low charge produces the same signature.

  3. 03

    Assess the valve

With charge verified, evaluate the TXV per the refrigeration diagnostics; replace only on evidence, not on the code alone.

  4. 04

    Retest

Run consecutive freeze cycles and confirm the T3/T4 spread returns to normal and the code stays clear.

When to call a professional

Refrigeration-circuit work on this machine (gauges, refrigerant recovery, TXV or compressor replacement) requires an EPA-certified refrigeration technician, and Indigo units built on R290 propane additionally require flammable-refrigerant service procedures. If the fault returns after the basic checks here, book a qualified ice-machine technician rather than continuing to reset the unit.
