What does Manitowoc Ice E09 mean?

Code E09 is the evaporator-flooding fault for circuit 1 (single-circuit, single-evaporator machines): during the first 6 minutes of the freeze cycle, the average compressor discharge-line temperature (T2) fell below the average of the six previous cycles — the board's flooding-evaporator signature.

Symptoms

  • E09 in the event log
  • Cooler-than-normal discharge line early in freeze
  • Possible compressor noise or sweating suction line

Common causes

  • TXV overfeeding (flooding)
  • Ice thickness/cycle control ending harvest with liquid still in the evaporator
  • Charge above nameplate after a bad service top-up

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Confirm the trend

Check the event log for repeated E09 entries versus a one-off after a cleaning cycle or cold restart.

  2. 02

    Verify the charge

An overcharged critically-charged machine floods; recover and weigh in the exact nameplate charge if service history is doubtful.

  3. 03

    Evaluate the TXV

Follow the flooding-TXV branch of the freeze-cycle analysis (discharge temperature behavior each cycle) to confirm valve overfeed.

  4. 04

    Protect the compressor

Do not keep running a persistently flooding machine; repair the cause first.

When to call a professional

Refrigeration-circuit work on this machine (gauges, refrigerant recovery, TXV or compressor replacement) requires an EPA-certified refrigeration technician, and Indigo units built on R290 propane additionally require flammable-refrigerant service procedures. If the fault returns after the basic checks here, book a qualified ice-machine technician rather than continuing to reset the unit.
