Quick Answer

Scotsman commercial ice machines (Prodigy / Prodigy Plus / Brilliance) use a numeric sentinel scheme: Code 1 (no demand), Code 2 (long-freeze / harvest-temp fault), Code 3 (long-harvest), Code 4 (over-temp lockout), Code 8 (ice-making time-out). Some models add F-codes (e.g., F052) and SC-prefixed E-codes for model-specific faults. Older CME / NME / FME cubers use LED light-pattern diagnostics.

What error codes does Scotsman display?

1

No demand — the bin thermostat or bin level sensor reads the bin as full so the controller is intentionally idle. Confirm the sensor is not iced over, check the bin-level optical sensor on Prodigy Plus, and verify the cabinet temperature is below the bin-thermostat setpoint.

2

Harvest-temperature / long-freeze fault — evaporator did not reach harvest setpoint within the allotted freeze time. Common root causes: low refrigerant charge, high ambient, dirty condenser coil, weak condenser fan, hot gas valve not opening fully on harvest command.

3

Long-harvest cycle — the harvest cycle exceeded its maximum time limit (typically 3.5 minutes on Prodigy Plus). Check hot gas valve operation, water-distribution flow over the evaporator, harvest-assist pump where fitted, and incoming water temperature.

4

Over-temperature thermistor lockout — the controller measured an out-of-range temperature on a critical thermistor (typically high condenser or high evaporator). Identify which thermistor latched, check it against its R-vs-T table, and address the underlying cause before pressing OFF / ON to clear.

8

Ice-making time-out / long-freeze on Eclipse and earlier Prodigy generations — freeze cycle exceeded 20 minutes. Restricted refrigerant charge, high water inlet temperature, dirty condenser, high ambient, scale buildup on the evaporator, and low water flow are the common root causes.

F052

Vari-Smart bin level (KVS) thermostat fault on SC-F0522 / SC-F0822 / SC-F1222 flakers — verify the bin thermostat sensor seat and wiring; F-codes are model-specific and do NOT map to the universal Code 1-8 sentinel set.

E275

Model-specific code on the SCE275 cuber — pull the SCE275 IOM manual for the firmware-specific mapping. On some firmware revisions E275 displays the unit's basic electrical and dimensions data on the status display rather than indicating a hard fault.

E686

Model-specific code referenced on the CME810 schematic / parts manual — consult the CME810 service manual for the specific fault mapping; this is not part of the Prodigy Plus universal Code 1-8 set and applies only to the older crescent-cuber line.

E954

Model-specific code on the NME954 / FME1204 flake / nugget machines — references the water reservoir & bin controls section of the FME1204 service manual. Treat as a model-specific lookup rather than a universal code.

DE

Display message indicating the machine has entered a service / clean-cycle state on Prodigy controllers — 'Fr' flashing alongside indicates the unit is in a controlled freeze-stop or clean cycle. Check whether the front-panel CLEAN button was activated, then consult the operation manual for the model-specific clean-cycle exit procedure.
