What does Bell and Gossett E02 mean?

E02 signals a motor overload condition on the e-90E Smart Pump. The current drawn by the motor has exceeded the drive's protection threshold, forcing a shutdown to prevent winding damage. This is a locking error that stops the pump until power is cycled and the root cause is resolved.

Symptoms

• Pump stops and displays E02 on the control panel.
• STATUS LED illuminates red steady.
• Fault signal relay activates, triggering connected BMS or alarm circuits.
• Pump may restart briefly then fault again if the overload condition persists.

Common causes

• Motor drawing current above rated capacity due to hydraulic overloading.
• Impeller or rotor restricted by debris causing increased mechanical load.
• Supply voltage too low, forcing higher current draw to deliver rated torque.
• Motor windings beginning to fail, increasing resistance and current.

Diagnostic steps

1. 01

   Stop and wait 5 minutes

   Power down the pump completely and wait at least 5 minutes. This allows the drive and motor thermal protection to reset and capacitors to discharge safely.

2. 02

   Check for impeller obstruction

   Inspect the pump body for foreign material blocking the impeller. Debris such as pipe scale, gasket fragments, or sediment will increase motor load and trigger E02.

3. 03

   Verify supply voltage

   Measure input voltage at the pump terminals and compare with the rating on the motor data plate. Low voltage causes excessive current draw. The e-90E requires 208–240 V (single-phase) or 208–240/380–460 V (three-phase) within ±10%.

4. 04

   Restart and monitor current

   Restore power and restart. Check parameter P14 (Inverter Current) on the display to confirm the actual current is within the nameplate rating. If current is still high after clearing any obstruction, contact Xylem.

When to call a professional

Engage a licensed technician if E02 recurs after clearing the hydraulic system and confirming correct supply voltage. Persistent motor overload with no visible obstruction indicates a failing winding, bearing seizure, or drive fault requiring meggering, winding resistance measurements, and possible motor or VFD replacement.
