What does Bell and Gossett E05 mean?

E05 indicates the e-90E Smart Pump's EEPROM data memory has become corrupted. The pump stores configuration parameters and runtime data in EEPROM; corruption prevents the drive from reading a reliable configuration and forces a fault shutdown to avoid running on invalid settings.

Symptoms

  • Pump stops and displays E05 on the control panel.
  • STATUS LED illuminates red steady.
  • Pump may start briefly then fault immediately as the corrupted config is read.
  • Fault signal relay activates on terminal pins 4–5 (single-phase) or 24–25 (three-phase).

Common causes

  • Power interruption during a parameter write operation corrupting the EEPROM.
  • End-of-life EEPROM cell degradation from excessive write cycles.
  • Voltage transient or surge damaging the memory chip on the control board.
  • Internal hardware fault on the control PCB.

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

Power down and wait 5 minutes

Disconnect mains power completely. Allow 5 minutes for the drive capacitors to discharge and the fault state to clear before reconnecting.

  2. 02

    Restart and check for clearance

Restore power and restart the pump. If E05 does not reappear immediately, the memory may have recovered. Verify all parameters, especially P25 (control mode) and P42 (sensor scale), are set correctly.

  3. 03

Reset to factory defaults using P68

If E05 persists, access parameter P68 and set it to rES to perform a factory reset. This reloads all default values — re-enter site-specific settings after the reset completes.

  4. 04

    Contact Xylem if fault returns

If E05 returns after a factory reset and restart, the EEPROM or control board has a permanent hardware fault. Contact Xylem or an Authorized Distributor for board replacement.

When to call a professional

Contact Xylem or an authorized service center if E05 recurs after factory reset. Permanent EEPROM failure requires control board replacement, which involves component-level electronic repair beyond field technician scope. Do not attempt to re-flash or modify firmware without manufacturer authorization.
