What does Lainox ROD PROBE mean?
The ROD PROBE alarm indicates a fault on the rod (core/needle) temperature probe, handled like the cell probe error but applied to the rod probe. When parameter P3 is set to 1, temperature-based cycles can no longer be driven by core temperature, so the controller converts them to time-based operation using preset durations. The alarm relay is activated until the rod probe is repaired.
Symptoms
- ROD PROBE alarm message appears on the controller.
- Core/needle temperature reading is missing or clearly wrong.
- Temperature-based cycles switch to time-based operation.
- Chilling or deep freezing runs to a fixed time instead of ending on core temperature.
- The alarm relay output is activated.
Common causes
- Faulty or out-of-range rod (core) probe.
- Damaged or broken probe wiring.
- Loose or corroded probe connection at the controller.
- Incorrect probe-related parameter setting.
- Abnormal probe temperature outside the valid range.
Diagnostic steps

Apply the cell-probe checks to the rod probe
The manual states the solution is the same as the cell probe error but applied to the rod probe: verify the probe parameter, integrity, connection, and temperature.

Inspect the rod probe integrity
Examine the core probe and its cable for damage, kinks, or a failed sensing element and replace it if defective.

Check the device-probe connection
Inspect and reseat the wiring and terminal between the rod probe and the controller for loose or corroded contacts.

Confirm temperature-based cycles resume
After repair, verify chilling and deep freezing again end on core temperature rather than the fixed times set by parameters r1 and r2, and that the alarm relay has reset.

When to call a professional
If the rod probe, its wiring, and configuration check out but the alarm persists, have an authorised technician test or replace the probe and inspect the control board. Because cycles fall back to time-based durations (parameters r1 and r2) when the rod probe fails, core-temperature accuracy is lost; arrange qualified service if the fault does not clear so HACCP-critical chilling stays reliable.
