What does Smeg E05 mean?

Smeg shows E05 as a database error. The display title reads "WASHES DATABASE" with the description "UNABLE TO READ DATABASE, REINSTALL SW.". The oven cannot read the stored wash/cycle database, so the control software needs to be reinstalled before the affected functions will operate correctly again.

Symptoms

  • Display shows E05 with the title "WASHES DATABASE"
  • On-screen message reports it is unable to read the database
  • Message instructs that the software be reinstalled
  • Wash or stored-cycle functions do not run correctly

Common causes

  • Control software cannot read the stored washes database
  • Corrupted or missing software/database on the control system
  • Software installation incomplete or out of date

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Read the on-screen message

Note the title "WASHES DATABASE" and the instruction "UNABLE TO READ DATABASE, REINSTALL SW." shown on the display.

  2. 02

    Power-cycle the oven

Switch the oven off at the main power switch and back on to confirm the fault is persistent before any software action.

  3. 03

    Record the appliance details

Have the model and serial information ready so the technician can supply the correct software for reinstallation.

  4. 04

    Contact the Technical Assistance Service

Reinstalling the control software is a technician task; contact Smeg Technical Assistance to reinstall the software as the manual directs.

When to call a professional

Reinstalling the control software requires Smeg's software and service tools, and the manual instructs you to always contact the Technical Assistance Service for error messages. This is not a user-serviceable step, so call a qualified Smeg technician to reinstall the software rather than attempting it yourself when E05 appears.
