What does TurboChef F6 mean?

F6 (EC Temp) is displayed when the temperature of the electrical compartment exceeds 158 degrees F (70 degrees C), as measured by the sensor on the control board. The electrical compartment temperature is monitored once per minute. The fault clears on the next check if the thermocouple temperature is below 158 degrees F. F6 alerts the user of a possible air circulation problem and does not terminate a cook cycle.

Symptoms

  • Display shows "F6: EC Temp"
  • Alert of a possible air circulation problem
  • Electrical compartment running hot
  • Fault appears but the cook cycle continues (F6 does not terminate cooking)

Common causes

  • Blockage of cool air into the oven side or rear panels
  • Rear cooling fan exhaust guard(s) clogged
  • Dirty or clogged air filter on the back of the oven
  • Electrical compartment cooling fan not running
  • Cooling fan thermostat not actuating the center fan

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Clear obstructions to cooling air

Remove anything obstructing the flow of cool air into the side and rear oven panels so the electrical compartment can cool.

  2. 02

Clean the rear fan exhaust guards

Make sure the rear cooling fans and their exhaust guards are free of debris to restore airflow.

  3. 03

    Service the air filter

Check the air filter on the back of the oven; keep it clean and replace it when needed so debris does not block airflow to the electrical compartment.

  4. 04

Verify the center cooling fan operates

Confirm the center electrical-compartment fan runs; it is actuated by the cooling fan thermostat (via the K7 relay) when the compartment reaches 120 degrees F (49 degrees C).

  5. 05

    Allow the compartment to cool

Once airflow is restored, the fault clears automatically on the next once-per-minute check when the temperature falls below 158 degrees F.

When to call a professional

Many F6 causes are operator-serviceable airflow issues, but if cleaning the filter and clearing the fan guards does not help, the cooling fan, cooling-fan thermostat, K7 relay, or the control-board sensor may be at fault. Verifying and replacing those parts requires opening the energized electrical compartment and is service-technician work. Contact TurboChef Customer Support at 800.90TURBO or an Authorized Distributor if the fault persists.
