What does TurboChef F7 mean?

F7 is displayed when the control detects that one or both of the RTDs (resistance temperature detectors) is open. The display will show 999 degrees, indicating the RTD is open or disconnected. The fault is cleared when the control detects continuity again. On the Bullet, F7 will terminate a cook cycle upon discovery.

Symptoms

  • Display shows "F7: RTD Open"
  • Temperature display reads 999 degrees
  • Cook cycle terminates upon discovery
  • Oven cannot read cook-cavity temperature reliably

Common causes

  • RTD open or disconnected
  • Broken or loose RTD wiring
  • Connector to the RTD not seated
  • Defective RTD sensor
  • Fault on the I/O control board (SAGE) RTD input

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Test the RTDs

Check each RTD per the RTD - Top and Bottom Testing Procedure to confirm whether the sensor reads open.

  2. 02

Inspect the RTD wiring and connectors

Verify the RTD wiring is intact and the connectors are fully seated, since a disconnected RTD reads as open (999 degrees).

  3. 03

    Restore continuity

Reconnect or repair the open circuit; the fault clears when the control detects continuity on the RTD.

  4. 04

    Replace defective parts

Ensure wiring is correct and replace the defective RTD, or replace the I/O control board (SAGE) if the RTD input is at fault.

When to call a professional

F7 requires resistance testing of the RTD sensors, tracing wiring inside the electrical compartment, and potentially replacing an RTD or the I/O control board (SAGE). These are diagnostics that need the oven schematic and the manufacturer test procedures, performed by a qualified service technician. If reseating connectors does not clear the 999-degree reading, contact TurboChef Customer Support at 800.90TURBO or your Authorized Distributor.
