What does Perfect Fry PRIMARY OVERTEMP mean?

On a PFA-series fryer this SYSTEM ERROR is tied to the heating element not being installed properly. The fryer beeps twice, displays the alert, and de-energizes the heating element while the fans run. Restoring correct heater seating and a clean electrical connection at the back of the compartment is required before normal heating can resume.

Symptoms

  • LCD shows *** SYSTEM ERROR *** PLEASE CHECK PRIMARY OVERTEMP
  • Fryer beeps twice when the error occurs
  • Heating element is de-energized while fans run
  • Fryer will not return to normal HEATING operation

Common causes

  • Heating element (heater module) is not installed properly
  • Heater module is not correctly placed on the oil vat
  • Electrical connection between heater module and connector is not made
  • Dirty or corroded connector terminals

Diagnostic steps

  1. 01

    Reseat the heater module

Check that the heater module has been properly placed on the oil vat.

  2. 02

    Verify the electrical connection

Confirm the connection between the heater module and the connector at the inside back of the compartment is fully made.

  3. 03

    Clean the terminals

Clean the male and female terminals on the connector with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.

  4. 04

    Confirm the error clears

When corrected the fryer beeps twice to signal OK and resumes HEATING.

When to call a professional

An overtemperature fault that persists after the heater module is reseated with clean, fully mated terminals should be referred to qualified service personnel, as it can indicate a heater module or control fault. Contact your authorized service representative or Perfect Fry at 802-658-6600. Overtemperature protection is a safety system; do not attempt to defeat or repeatedly reset it without resolving the underlying heater issue.
